Omawumi cracks: why I don’t discuss the paternity of my daughter

7 Jun

In a recent interview, Omawumi opened up to Seun Apara, entertainment contributor of Thisday on the reasons why she does not like discussing the paternity of her daughter. She said:

“I never hid my child’s paternity but I felt that since I’m not married, I don’t need to come out and say this is the father of my child. It is always ideal for someone who wants to marry you to be the one to identify himself. Another thing is that he might not want to identify himself because he is not an artiste. He might not want that part of my life. He might just love me and my child. So I like to respect people’s privacy. I also strongly feel that it is my job as a musician to entertain you and if you feel like my personal life is your business, it doesn’t mean I feel the same way.
Initially when I got pregnant, I didn’t feel the need to come out and start telling people that this is the father of my child. I didn’t feel I owed it to anyone.

My family and my close friends know who the father of my child is because we’re in a relationship. We have a very healthy relationship and our families are intertwined. I don’t think I need to start telling people all this.

I felt so bad about the stories people are writing about my child’s paternity because normally, controversies don’t get to me and my daughter don’t have to be part of this. So when people start putting that kind of stuffs in print and my daughter stumbles upon it when she is old enough to read, it will hurt her.

Considering the kind of upbringing I had, I’m not that morally bankrupt that I will now fraternize with a married man that is like a father figure to me”.

You want to reveal his identity?
I don’t feel that will be necessary. I just want to use this opportunity to tell people that I will try as much as possible to be a normal artiste and I want to encourage people to try and enjoy my music. It’s not easy but they should just try not to be concerned about my private life. They should know that I’m a human being and they should try to understand that I tried to be a person that people can look up to.

Am happy for her, specially the “willingness” to keep the child happy…

Usain Bolt beaten by Justin Gatlin in Diamond League by one-hundredth of a second

7 Jun

Bolt was fastest out of the blocks at the Diamond League meeting but US sprinter Justin Gatlin beat the six-time Olympic champion in the men’s 100 metres race at the Rome Golden Gala, Diamond League, Justin beat Usain by one-hundredth of a second, that’s like 1% of a second. Justin actually had to dip his head over the line to win in 9.94 seconds. Usain came in 9.95.

Usain was making his first appearance in the Diamond League this season since his recent recovery from a hamstring injury. Usain explained what happened to him:
“I need two months to get ready so I am not worried,” Bolt told BBC Sport

“I got the perfect start that I wanted, then about five steps in I stumbled a bit and that kind of threw my game off. My legs didn’t feel like my legs coming into the straight. I guess I need to do more strength work. I think I just need time to get it back together but the fact I got a good start threw me off. At least I got under 10 seconds.
“It is always a good thing to lose. You can figure how to step it up. I knew I wasn’t in great shape but I’m not worried. It takes time to get back into shape and I didn’t expect much from this race.”

Usain’s next race will be in the men’s 200m in next Thursday’s Diamond League meeting in Oslo.

BBA updates: Another five for eviction after Hudda, Denzel’s exit

4 Jun

After only a week in the House, Huddah and Denzel have been sent packing! Koketso, LK4, Feza, Dillish and Hakeem are up for Eviction this Sunday.

The quirky Ugandan Denzel and sexy Huddah from Kenya, became the first two Housemates to be Evicted from the game. The pretty Kenyan had emerged as a rather strong personality, as evidenced by her candid Diary Sessions, where she held no prisoners.

Denzel on the other hand, proved to be a colourful character who entertained his fellow Housemates and viewers alike with his zany antics. We doubt his penis avatar will be forgotten anytime soon. This evening’s Evictions proved to be rather taxing emotionally, not only for Huddah and Denzel, but also for Ruby Head of House Beverly and Diamonds Head of House, Feza. The two had to stand in front of their fellow Housemates to reveal their respective ‘Save and Replace’ decisions.

You could almost hear a pin drop as a deafening hush fell over the lounge when Feza stood to her feet to reveal her swap. When she finally revealed she had put Betty up for possible Eviction, the Ethiopian pulled a face and seemed to take it in her stride. Over in the Ruby House, the tears flowed freely after Bev revealed her swap. Clearly, being HoH isn’t as glamorous as many people think it is.

When Denzel was told of his fate by Live Show host IK, the Ugandan gave a defeated smile and quickly made a beeline for the Eviction doors. When it was revealed that Huddah was on the first flight back home, the distraught Kenyan cried bucket loads of tears. Her love interest, Angelo was left shell shocked too.
All he could do was sit with his mouth half open in disbelief.

So cold: Ifeanyi Udeze denies buying N50m house for Halima Abubakar

2 Jun

This is Linda Ikeji is reporting it:

They were rumoured to have dated back in 2009/2010, but happily married father of three, ex-Super Eagles footballer Ifeanyi Udeze says it’s all stories. When asked in today’s Punch interview if he had an affair with actress Halima Abubakar  Udeze replied:
For me, those are stories. How can I buy a N50m house for a woman that is not my mother or wife? There is no iota of truth in that story.
Lol, see the way he dodged the question. The two were spotted quite a lot back in the day, but he has since said they were just friends.

Dad Writes Letter To Unborn Child! We Can’t Wait No More

2 Jun

My child,

Its just over 31 months since that day I took the stroll down the aisle with your mummy and said our vows before God and man. Since that day, we have been waiting expectantly for you. Sometimes we wonder what is taking you so long. Sometimes we imagine its taking so long because you must be very special. Most times our hearts have remained undoubtedly sure that your coming is very close, and in fact closer than we think. But then, you do not need to keep us waiting anymore.

But don’t think we have not done our fair share of things that are believed will make you come quickly. I have been severally tested and found to be perfect, having millions of you inside me. Mummy has been severally tested too and everything is in place, no cysts, no fibroids. And we have sown seeds too, financially and otherwise. We have invested in other children and continue to do so. We have followed plethora of advice on what and what not to do. We have not allowed our expectations to metamorphose into anxiety… yet you are yet to come.

And you know what? Mummy needs you! There is just something about African culture and the African woman that has made having you a certificate of completeness. You are the very person she needs right now. She has God, she has me, but she needs you to balance the equation. She has heard how discomfiting pregnancy can be… and how much more painful labour is too. But I can tell you that she is ready to go through all of that and more just to have you. Mummy G that has a 3yr-old and a 2yr-old just gave birth another 2 months ago. Mummy T that has a 2yr+ old is already carrying another. These people live in the same compound with mummy. Infact, your uncle and aunty that married after your mummy and daddy already hold their children in their hands. Granddaddy and Grandmummy are not putting mummy under pressure. They call her from time to time to encourage her to be patient. My siblings and hers do the same too. But little by little, mummy is beginning to put herself under pressure. I am doing everything I can to help her, but I need you to help me.

And don’t think that I don’t want you too! I want you with the last drop of my blood. I love you so much my heart literally aches sometimes. Children’s day was celebrated yesterday in church and it was beautiful. My eyes were flooded with tears to see so many lovely children showcasing their talents. I know that if you were here, you would have been one of the best! Anyway, I bought some gifts for children that are needy on your behalf; so know that your name is already recorded in church!

Today is Children’s Day. If you were here, I would have taken the day off work to have fun with you at Inspiration FM’s Children Day’s Carnival at Dreamworld Africana. We would have had many lovely rides and yummy ice cream together, and I would have been overwhelmed just to hear you laugh. Nothing can describe how I would feel just to hold you in my arms knowing that you are my seed become flesh.

Please do not heed all the bad news on the airwaves and think the world is bad place. Do not listen to statistics that show that Nigeria is uninhabitable. We have sworn to do all we can to make the world a beautiful place for you. You will meet many challenges, but most importantly, you would have been prepared to overcome them.

I have to stop now because am in the office and my eyes are teary again. My boss just asked what’s wrong my eyes (lol) so I have to run before they find I have been crying. But am not ashamed to cry if it will make you come quickly. I know that we will surmount any mountain to finally have you in our arms… it’s just that waiting can be so hard sometimes.

We love you as no other human can ever and will ever do.

From the best Dad you could ever have,

-Ladun Laidi
